4 Things Every Guest Room Needs

If you have an extra bedroom in your home, setting it up as a guest room is a great idea. It is useful if you have friends from out of town, or family that needs somewhere to sleep for a few nights while improvements are being done on their home. When setting up the guest room, don't just use old furniture you no longer have a use for. Get quality furniture and turn it into a retreat for anyone who stays there.
Comfortable Bed And Mattress
The first thing the guest room needs is a comfortable mattress and bed. Choose a bed that goes with your intended décor and style of the room. It is a good idea to sway away from the style of the rest of your home. If your home is decorated in a contemporary style, why not go shabby chic in the guest room? You can have a lot of white and pale colors, offering your guest something romantic and relaxing. Choose a high-quality mattress that is large enough for two people and is very comfortable. Cover the bed in the best linens you can afford, and offer options of soft and firm bed pillows.
Side Tables With Lamps
You never know when more than one person will be staying in your guest room, so it is always a good idea to have two side tables, one on each side of the bed. This provides space for guests to place their hand lotion, glasses, jewelry, or a book they are reading at night. Also include a lamp on each side table with good lighting. Lamps that have a control for how bright they get are ideal, but not mandatory.
Bookshelf And Media Center
It is a good idea to include a variety of books and media for your guests' entertainment, and having a bookshelf or media center is the perfect way to display it. Set up a small media center that includes a television with cable, and at least a DVD player. If you have an extra video game console, go ahead and set it up in the guest room for any guests that like to unwind at the end of the day. Have a variety of books and magazines for their enjoyment, offering something for every taste.
Dresser With Empty Drawers
Many guests prefer taking clothes out of their suitcase and putting them in a dresser. Have at least a small dresser in the guest room with empty drawers so they can fold and put away their clothes. If there is a closet in the room, make sure a section of it is empty and has hangers for your guests. The dresser can also be a television stand if you don't have a media center or room for one in the guest room.
